The Wiggle Super Series is back and bigger than ever with an array of new sportive events for 2016. These new rides launch alongside the expansive existing roster of Super Series events that attracted more than 60,000 entrants last year.
The total number of Wiggle routes is now up to 48, spread across all corners of the United Kingdom and beyond as the latest influx of events brings the Super Series to parts of the country previously unexplored – while our ever-popular sportive day visits to France have also been expanded.
New Wiggle events to boost 2016 sportive line-up
Our new Wiggle Super Series rides have been planned to capture the best punishing climbs, dramatic descents and mega-mile hauls of all regions we explore as the routes provide a serious challenge for anyone from the serious cyclist to the two-wheeled beginner.
If our excellent video has whet your appetite then you will be pleased to know that our 2016 Super Series page is now live and ready for your visit!
Among the first on the calendar to take place, the inaugural Vale Velo will test your early-season climbing legs with more than 4,000ft of uphill action while giving stunning views across the Vale of York and Yorkshire Wolds on the way.
The County Durham Dynamo is another easy on the eye as it reaches out to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty while the Forest Ranger takes in the best cycling roads around The National Forest.
Also new to the Wiggle Supper Series for 2016, the Fontwell Freeze and Snowball Spinner have been launched to bring the season to a close, taking place in November and December respectively to close your year’s riding to a challenging end.
Wiggle sportive rides are as popular as ever
The whole raft of established Wiggle Super Series rides have gained a hearty reputation between both road and MTB sportive cyclists in the several years they have been running. As ever, the most popular rides are back for more in 2016 to complement our new courses and meet the growing demand. It is hard to pick out just a few but let’s give it a go…
Wiggle South Downs 100 sportive
Our best-attended Sportive events sell out well in advance – and each ride has its own unique plus point. The South Downs 100 sportive is a key example as its closed-road hill climb, sponsored by Skoda, gives you chance to give your all on a car-free killer climb in the middle of a long-distance day in the saddle – just like a pro rider.
Wiggle New Forest Spring Sportive
Another sure sell-out is the New Forest Spring Sportive – book your place early to avoid missing out. This ride ventures through the peaceful and scenic roads in and around the naturally beautiful New Forest, offering picturesque views as well as ample cycling challenges across the course.
Wiggle Yorkshire Tour
Encapsulating Yorkshire’s love of cycling, the Yorkshire Tour unfolds on many of the roads used by the Tour de France’s Grand Depart in 2014 – as well as the ensuing Tour de Yorkshire. The No Excuses event has proved to be among our most popular early-season sportive ride-outs, taking place in February across the three counties of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.
Wiggle MagnifiCat Sportive
Celebrating its 10th year of running in 2016 is the ever-successful, UCI-recognised MagnifiCat Sportive – with nine major climbs making it a classic on the calendar – and the Ups and Downs MTB ride has proved just as popular for off-road riders as we continue to build on the demand of our six mountain bike-based routes.
Wiggle French Sportives
Last but by no means least – riders will be pleased to hear that we’re not only planning on repeating both our French Sportives but adding to them with a third day in France. The fact that both French events have sold out on every turn of running since they were launched speaks volumes are we’re keen to get as many cyclists across the Channel as possible so no-one misses out. Dates, routes and details for all three events will be released later in the year.
