Salomon running shoe guide
Find the perfect Salomon running shoe for every terrain
Runners have much to gain from varying their terrain and routes. For starters, running up hills will help you to build extra power. On flat ground, this means that you’ll be faster! Also, softer ground is more forgiving than asphalt so you’ll reduce risk of injury and impact on your joints. Then there are the mental benefits – the freedom of the great, wide world!
The challenging nature of trail running makes it more important than ever to get your footwear right. This is where we turn to one of the most reliable names in off road kit: Salomon. From mountains and dirt trails, to woodland and urban parks, Salomon develop technologies that will offer you comfort in every situation. The technologies that are relevant to a certain environment are then pulled together into one shoe, so that you get a shoe that is perfectly tuned to the terrain.
You will be running: 2.5 hour run (5 to 10 miles) on challenging but not technical terrain

Derived from the city trail Range the low 6mm heel to toe drop encourages, fast and nimble forefoot running. Protection comes from a thin Profeel Film in the middle of the midsole. This has all of the benefits of a conventional rock plate but it’s lighter, less bulky and still affords excellent flexibility in the forefoot.
You will be running: 1.5-3 hour run (6 to 12 miles) on craggy, muddy and undulating terrain.
Your footwear match: Fellraiser
The super aggressive Contagrip sole unit handles any amount of mud you can throw at it. The heel to toe drop is low at 6mm, to promote mid to forefoot running. A lightweight breathable upper means that the shoe is also very fast drying, making it perfect for bogs, puddles and downpours.
You will be running: 3-5 hour run (12 to 20 miles) on varied terrain, from moorland to coastal paths.
Your footwear match: Speedcross 3

The Quicklace system means that you can adjust tightness to suit the shape of your foot, giving you’re a best-fit. The upper is lightweight and breathable which keeps the foot, cool and clean by preventing any dirt or grit from getting inside the shoe.
When running in the wet …
If you know that your run will be wet from start to finish, it’s worth getting a shoe with even more wet weather protection. Look for a shoe that’s got Climashield in the upper. Or try Gore-Tex, which has superb waterproof qualities plus thermo-regulation to keep your feet fresh.
You will be running: 4-6 hours (20 miles plus) on varied terrain – ultra runs, adventure races and multi-day endurance runs.
